Have you ever thought about how self- judgement affects your progress and creates negative self-talk?
We judge, may it be without awareness or not.
We self-judge, compare and talk to ourselves about things we “should, need or could” be doing better. Or, things we think we are not doing well enough.

I could be eating better...
I should be sleeping more...
I should be working more...
I could be working out more...
If I would do (fill in the blank), I could do (fill in the blank)
Constantly criticizing things, we do and how we do them, leads to negativity and will affect our emotional wellbeing.
This can create a downward spiral for a lack of motivation, wasted energies and negative thoughts, even depression, when we don’t recognize the good things we are doing on a daily basis.
There will always be someone who is better, faster, more advanced more experienced, skinnier, stronger etc. than yourself and THAT’S OK.
How about getting inspired and motivated from someone who is better, instead of continuing with the negative "should, could and need"? Observe and learn instead.
It is important to understand that everyone has their own unique journey, AND SO DO YOU.
Placing self-judgment will create negativity, hinder your progress which will then require energy to deal with negative emotions created by the judgement.
Instead, it is crucially important to be self-compassionate and kind to yourself. Yes, I know this is not easy all the time :-) That's why there is a practice for it.
Allow yourself to recognize your progress, your successes, no matter how small or big they are.
Celebrating successful moments boosts self-confidence, creates positivity and delivers energies to continue a successful journey.
Success feeds success.
But not only self judgement is an energy waster. Have you ever noticed how we judge others in different moments of our life?
Negative judgement placed on others reflects directly back to you.
Can you catch yourself judging someone around you?
Ask yourself:
- Why do you do it?
- How does it make you feel?
- Does this judgement do any good for you and or the other person who is judged?
Understand the effects judgement has on you and others, and how it can hinder your own progress.
Can you be a bit more kind to yourself and accept your progress and efforts without judgement?
Remember that there is more harm done by placing judgment not only on yourself, but on other people around you.
By being curious, open and accepting yourself and others, we can foster a culture of acceptance and compassion which accelerates the positive outcomes we are striving for.
So next time you judge yourself or someone else, take a breath and be kind.
